The Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics at the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) hosted the International Summer School on Green and Digital Automotive Engineering from 29 June to 3 July 2026. The event brought together students from the Technical University of Moldova and the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iași (TUIASI), Romania, within the framework of the CROSSCOMP 2.0 project.

Organized by the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering, the summer school aimed to familiarize students with the latest trends shaping the automotive sector, including vehicle electrification, sustainable mobility, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, and the development of innovative technologies supporting green and digital transportation.

Throughout the five-day program, participants worked in mixed international teams, attended interactive sessions delivered by industry experts, and explored real-world case studies inspired by ongoing industrial projects. The agenda combined hands-on technical workshops with entrepreneurship and professional development activities, while also focusing on essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management.

As part of the practical component, students toured the laboratories of the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering, where they were introduced to state-of-the-art equipment used for education and research. Experimental demonstrations highlighted the connection between academic knowledge and its practical applications in the automotive industry.

A key component of the program was a series of study visits to leading automotive and electronics companies in the Republic of Moldova.

At Informbusiness S.R.L., students learned about the development and manufacturing of high-power electrical equipment for public transportation systems used in more than 120 countries worldwide. Participants explored the architecture of electric trams, electronic control systems, electric motors, and battery-based power supply solutions.

During a visit to BSW Tech S.R.L., a company specializing in software solutions and embedded systems for the automotive sector, students gained insight into research and development processes and discussed projects delivered for international manufacturers such as BMW, Porsche, and Peugeot. The visit showcased the high level of expertise available in Moldova’s automotive software engineering sector.

The program also included a visit to DSM DRÄXLMAIER System Technology S.R.L., where participants were introduced to the activities of the company’s Research and Development Center in Chișinău. Company engineers presented the complete lifecycle of electrical and electronic systems development for the automotive industry, from requirements analysis and system design to testing and validation according to international standards.

For many students, the summer school represented an opportunity to better understand how academic training aligns with industry expectations and future career opportunities.

The International Summer School was organized at UTM for the second consecutive year and continues to strengthen collaboration between technical universities in the Republic of Moldova and Romania. The initiative supports a strategic objective of the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering: preparing future engineers for an automotive industry increasingly driven by digitalization, sustainability, and integrated technological solutions.

The event was organized within the framework of the project “Upgrade of the Cross-Border Regional Hub of Competences for the Automotive Industry for Green and Digital Emerging Trends” (ROMD00216), in collaboration with the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iași, Romania.
